Dry needling is a treatment option that can assist in relieving muscular and joint pain. Dry needling uses an acupuncture-type needle, however, unlike acupuncture, it targets myofascial trigger points within the muscle. These trigger points or knots can cause pain local to the area, or referred pain, and usually cause a twitch response when the needle goes into the affected part of the muscle belly.
Effective pain relief
Like a deep massage, this can feel a little uncomfortable at first, but as the muscle relaxes and the knot releases, so will your pain.
Dry Needling can be used to treat most musculoskeletal conditions; however it is most effective to treat:
Headaches and neck pain
ITB friction syndrome
Muscle tightness and soreness
Tennis or golfer’s elbow
As some medical conditions may mean you are not suitable for dry needling, please contact us for more information.
At Revive Physiotherapy and Pilates, Matthew has completed the Australian Physiotherapy Association Dry Needling course and has many years experience using this treatment modality.
